A WDIR (Wood-Destroying Insect Report) is a documented visual inspection. It looks for evidence of termites and other wood-destroying insects. In North Carolina, the form used for real-estate transactions is the WDIR-100. The NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) adopted it. It is a separate document from a general home inspection.
Visible evidence of subterranean termites, powder-post beetles, old-house borers, carpenter ants, and sometimes carpenter bees. We also note conditions that favor wood-destroying-insect activity. Common conditions include wood-to-soil contact, excessive moisture in wood, and cellulose debris under the structure.
North Carolina's official form for reporting visible evidence of wood-destroying insects, damage patterns, and conditions that favor termites. It reflects what was observed on the inspection date. NC buyers, sellers, agents, and lenders commonly see this report during a real-estate transaction.

The WDIR-100 is the North Carolina wood-destroying-insect information report used in NC real-estate transactions. The NC Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, Structural Pest Control & Pesticides Division administers it. Only an individual licensed by NCDA&CS in the W phase (wood-destroying organisms) may complete and sign the form. That is a separate credential from the North Carolina Home Inspector License. Termite and wood-destroying-insect evidence is one of the things a general home inspection does not officially report on. It needs its own inspection and report.
